DoCoMo knows better than anyone, you can't just go and introduce a new technology (FeliCa) nationwide (well, Japanwide) without releasing new units that support it, and actually expect adoption by the public.

SO to coincide with the "national FeliCa implementation campaign," and officially be 10 years ahead of the USA (well, technologically, let's not talk about socially), DoCoMo will introduce four new handsets supporting FeliCa.

They are:
-Fujitsu's F900iC, with fingerprint security
-Panasonic's P506iC, with a dual-axis rotating main display
-Sharp's SH506iC, also with a dual-axis rotating main display
-Sony Ericcson's SO506iC, with a sliding display and removable faceplate

-F900iC

The F900iC is a FOMA unit of Fujitsu make, supporting "i-Mode FeliCa," and is scheduled to be released with the launch of the service in the first part of July. It is the only FOMA unit in the pack of phones whose information was presented today.

On the bottom part of the keypad section of the phone, there is a fingerprint sensor; it features an "IC card lock" function that will disallow the use of FeliCa functions by third parties, and a "remote FeliCa lock" function that allows users to basically phone-in a special sequence of numbers to a specified phone number, and it will disallow the use of the phone entirely.

An autofocus 1.28MP CCD camera is on the rear side of the display section, and a 0.11MP CMOS camera is above the main display facing the user. The main display is a 2.4", QVGA, 262,144 color TFT LCD, and the subdisplay is a 1.1" organic EL. Just like the other 900i series phones, this phone can use "Dego Mail," "Character Den," "Chaku Motion," and it supports iAppli up to 500kB as well as Flash contents up to 100kB. It also furnishes a miniSD card slot.

The size of the phone is 104 x 51 x 26mm, and the weight is about 129g. Four body colors will be available: orange, red, purple silver, and titanium black. While the appearance of the phone is much like the shape of the "F900i," the image varies greatly in the color variations, as well as the pointed body of the phone near the display, that extends out horizontally.

-P506iC

The "P506iC," from Panasonic Mobile Communications, is a FeliCa supporting phone that inherits the "Flex Style" introduced with the "P505iS" released last Fall.

Though the shape of the phone uses the same dual-axis hinge to create the "Flex Style" as on the "P505iS," a new feature is the phones ability to use the "Quick Style" - that is, i-Mode sites can be viewed, and email read while the phone is closed. Also, when viewing image data, and the body (on the display side) of the phone is rotated 90 degrees, one can also use the "NEW View Style" that will rotate the screen's image to match the horizontal resolution of the display.

Close to the hinge near the keypad side of the body is a 1.95MP CCD camera. Furthermore, while the autofocus function featured on the "P505iS" is not included in this model, it does have i-Mode's first strobe. Also, the "Photo Cocktail" function that can take up to 10 images and combine them with visual effects and background music has been prepared.

The display is a 2.4", QVGA size TFT LCD capable of displaying 65,536 colors. The phone also furnishes a miniSD card slot. The size of the phone is 111 x 50 x 26m, and with a weight of 128g, the phone feels lighter compared to other phones in the 506iC series.

Three body colors are available: Blue Margarita, Black Tornado, and Silver Martini. Each of the colors has a matte coating as well.

-SH506iC

The "SH506iC" is a Sharp phone supporting i-Mode FeliCa, and it also uses a dual-hinge display to allow the use of the "Rotate Display Style." I-Mode sites can be viewed and mail can be accessed while the phone is still closed.

To increase the functionality while using the "Rotate Display Style," there are two operation buttons next to the display, and the left side of the phone features direction keys. While the phone is closed, these direction keys operate "up," "down," etc. functions using the "Rotate Display Style," but while the phone is open, these keys serve as shortcut keys that can summon any function immediately. For example, if you were to map "the left direction key as a camera (still mode)," you could start up the camera application with the press of only one button.

This phone also has a few points of customization. To start, users may change their icons and background. In addition, the "menu" and "submenu" bars that typically display when the user is operating their phone can also have their backgrounds changed, meaning that users can essentially change the entire range of items that meet their eyes to their preferred design.

An autofocus camera with a 2.02MP CCD is featured on the reverse of the camera near the hinge, and a miniSD card slot is also provided. The main display is a 2.2", QVGA, 262,144 color TFT LCD, and the subdisplay is a 0.6" B/W STN display. Like the "SH900i," this phone also features the "Document Viewer" function for reading PC-ish data such as Word, Excel, and PDF files.

The size of the phone is 103 x 49 x 26mm, and the weight is 136g. Four body colors are available: Mellow Silver, Brilliant Black, and Sparkling Pink.

-SO506iC

From Sony Erricson Mobile Communications comes the "SO506iC," an i-Mode phone supporting FeliCa. The shape of the phone looks much like the "SO505iS," but with a size of 106 x 50 x 28mm and a weight of 140g, it is 3mm thinner and 7g lighter. However, there are also parts of the phone such as the protruding section that holds the antenna that have become more compact, making it much easier to fit in the palm of one's hand.

Four color variations will be available: Bakansu Rose (?), Soil Black, Airy Beige, and Tropical Turquoise. Also, the "Fit Cover" faceplate of the phone can be removed, and changed. There will be 8 types of Fit Covers available, made of soft materials. Installing the covers is as simple as pushing them into the pre-cut cracks on the "SO506iC." Since the faceplates aren't the type that use some sort of glue or adhesive to attach, the faceplates can be changed more simply. "Fit Covers" are scheduled to be available individually at DoCoMo shops as well as other stores that carry electronics. Though the price has not yet been decided, it is said that they will be able to be "purchased easily."

Memory Stick Duo is provided for a removable memory card. one can now access i-Mode and mail while listening to audio stored inside the Memory Stick Duo using "Audio Player." The phone also features a function called "Doji Uchi" that allows users to input characters while the phone is still closed, with the use of the jog dial.

Although the display can rotate using the "180 degree Style," it is made so that it can do so by only sliding it a slight amount. It features a 1.3MP CCD camera, and the camera will start when the lens cover is opened. The display is a 2.4", QVGA, 262,144 color TFT LCD.
