GkF Statistics

After a week in hiatus, Saturday Statistics is back. I've dropped BCN rankings until I can figure out a way to more efficiently handle them. Sometimes I think doing all this work is giving me mesothelioma.

It's Saturday, so I'm posting Saturday Statistics like I'm supposed to. GfK Rankings are back this week, so that's nice.

For one reason or another, GfK didn't update their statistics this week. We've still got BCN and Yomiuri, though, so take a look.

While not nearly as exciting as the BCN Awards we reported about on Friday, here's the weekly Saturday Statistics...again being posted on Sunday :)

I know it's not Saturday (where I am), but the results of the yearly BCN Awards were announced. We've got them all right here -- the top 3 companies for over 80 categories of technology-related products and software.

The winners were determined based on POS (Point of Sale, for you non-business majors) data collected from 1,500 stores of 17 different PC vendors, during the entire 2004 year. Rather than posting my own observations here, I'll save them for the comments section; be sure to post your own as well.

Now that things are returning to normal, as classes begin again, I'll hopefully be able to get in the groove of providing consistent features. Hopefully.

This week, there's a couple interesting developments: Hitachi actually has one of their Prius notebooks in the top 10 seller list, and Apple is nowhere to be found on any lists at all (they previously held positions in the top 10 lists for desktops and notebooks).

Needless to say, our Saturday Statistics coverage has been spotty for the past month or so. I will try with all my might to turn this into a weekly feature again.

Looks like some new products are making their way on to the lists...

Update: Apologies, but Yomiuri rankings are in the comments for now. There seem to be some HTML issues with PostNuke, as trying to post the code causes the article to not load correctly. But it loads fine in the comments?? So I'll just leave them in there until I figure out the problem.

Hopefully we'll be on schedule for the next few weeks. And by "on schedule" I mean actually posting on Saturday, as the name of this feature implies. Also, I'm still working on creating some sort of visual representation of this data -- if anyone has suggestions, please comment on this story.

This week I add rankings from Yomiuri online (part of the Yomiuri Shimbun). Their supplier is Japanese electronics vendor BicCamera.

Oh, and for some reason, GfK didn't bother to update their "Weekly 'No. 1'" page, so just keep that in mind. They did update their "Weekly Ranking" page, though, thus I suspect someone just got lazy.
