Sanyo and Nokia announced they'd be forming a new company that will focus o­n the creation of CDMA handsets throughout the world. It's unclear what we should expect at this point as far as actual product offerings go, but given they're saying the new company will be headquartered in Japan and the US, it's safe to guess they'll be releasing handsets in both markets. Nokia's English press release is here, and Sanyo's is here (hint: they're the same press release). According to this image over at Keitai Watch, Nokia holds the #3 spot for CDMA handsets, and Sanyo the #6 spot -- the combined market shares of the two companies puts them at the same level as Samsung, with 20.6% of the market share.

Sanyo's new washing machine converts air to ozone, and uses it to clean your clothes. Apparently this is the first time such technology is used in consumer-level washing machines.

Sanyo's new Xacti DMX-HD1 camera maintains the same form factor as previous Xacti cameras, but kicks the resolutions up to 720p. There's a bit of an added bonus for 5G iPod owners: videos recorded in "Web-HQ" can be transferred to and played from your iPod. Furthermore, the camera can record at 60 frames per second, which I believe is pretty rare for a consumer-level camera. Hubba hubba.

Zuh? Sanyo, o­ne of primary names behind HD-DVD, has announced they're joining the Blu-Ray Disc Associaton.

They said that it "has nothing to do with the question of unifying the HD DVD and Blu-Ray standards," but it sounds to me like they don't want all their eggs in o­ne basket. For a comparatively small company like Sanyo, I think it's the right decision.

Sanyo has made it possible to throw away your micro-cassettes by introducing the world's first HDD voice recorder. It also features an SD card slot and can store images from digital cameras.

Here's Sanyo's new in-car navigation system, the "HD Gorilla." It seems to have a nice collection of features; 30GB hard drive, integrated TV tuner and FM transmitter, and what seems to be the new standard for navigation, 3D maps with realistic textures. It even rips CDs into everyone's favorite compression format, ATRAC, at 8x.

There's no mention of MP3 playback from DVD-R (though it can do CD), nor is there any mention of PC-side synchronization (like Sony's XYZ series).

Here's a new "home-watching" robot that reminds me of o­ne of those things from that movie eXistenZ. Damn was that movie awful.

I have been struggling to find news worth reporting o­n today. These new Sanyo projectors will have to do.

Sanyo and Rayovac have announced a partnership to push Rayovac's new "IC-3" (In-Cell Charge Control) NiMH batteries, which recharge in as little as 15 minutes.
I can feel the warm, international cooperation fuzziness already.

If for some reason you were not satisfied with the previous version of the "Banryu," this version offers a stunning new design, LED lights o­n the head to indicate facial expressions, and improved voice recognition/synthesis capabilities allowing it to have greater publicity potential.

Sanyo introduced a cheap portable DVD player today. Not a whole lot of innovation to be found inside, but it's a good price.

More 12x news, and apparently 16x is not far off.
No mention of dual layer though, which IMO is in greater demand than faster writing speeds.

Sanyo will add two new color variations to the "DMX-C1" model, which was released back in November of 2003. The two new colors are black and red.
