A new vertically operating shelf unit from onkyo can handle CDs, MDs, and can connect with onkyo's "DS-A1" iPod adapter.
We've seen a few similar systems in the past, but Onkyo has announced their own approach to the "wireless AV delivery" system. It's called the WL-TR100(B) and uses 802.11a.
We here at TechJapan have been keeping a close eye on how the entire HD DVD vs Blu-Ray battle unfolds, and the latest punch thrown comes from Onkyo. The company has joined the HD DVD Promotion Group. Like many companies joining either party, though, they have explicitly stated that this is not an exclusive deal -- the possibility of them joining the other promotional group still exists.
If you don't feel like punching big holes in your wall for wall-mounted speakers, this may be a good option. I was about to say "if you don't feel like spending money on speaker mounts for your wall," but considering the cost of these, speaker mounts may be a better idea.
Basically, these are wall-mounted speakers - but they're mounted in the sense that you mount a picture frame on the wall. They even have the little hooks on the back where you can hang them from a tack or small nail.
I don't know how being shaped like a theta makes them better, but I suppose by the end of this article I will find out. They've got an internal amp, too.
I reported on this onkyo network AV player back in January, and at that time, it seemed like a good idea. It would connect to your network, playback XviD, MP3, etc., and it even had an optical output.
Well, this isn't the case anymore. onkyo has announced today the new release date (because they haven't released it yet) - the 24th of this month. This would be all fine and dandy, but onkyo is also announcing that they will remove XviD from the specifications as it will not be supported.
On first glance, this looks pretty cool. But then, you realize that not only is it 30,000 yen, it supports XviD and not DivX. I don't know about you guys, but I'm pretty sure I have many more DivX files than I do XviD.
That and...you've probably actually heard of Onkyo. In Japan, most DVD players or whatnot supporting MPEG-4 based formats have come from companies that aren't exactly well known.
