Topic: Verbatim
The new items published under this topic are as follows.
Mitsubishi Kagaku Media (also known as Verbatim) has announced what is apparently the world's first 8.5GB single-sided dual-layer data DVD-R media. The new discs will go on sale from this spring.
Mitsubishi Kagaku Media, known to most of the world as "Verbatim," will release two "Ultra Density Optical" (UDO) disc products on the 28th. The discs are 5" across, and are stored in cartridges much like Magneto-Optical.
UDO currently has a capacity of 30GB, but development for 60GB and 120GB capacity discs is planned.
Update: Oh, it turns out we already talked about this, about a year ago. Oops.
30GB on a 5 inch disc. How many formats are there going to be? Last week, there was HD DVD. There's also Blu Ray from Sony, but that's a different story. I guess competition can't hurt.
