Nagase For those of us that don't have wired or wireless LAN environments available, Nagase is introducing a new player called the "TRANSGEAR HMP-100" that features an integrated version of Gracenote's music information database. Songs that are recorded to the player are recognized, and automatically tagged with necessary information.

Remember when 650MB CD-R used to be all you can get? Then 700MB CD-R came out, and it basically replaced 650MB CDs. In fact, most CD-Rs I see at stores today are 700MB.

Well, I guess the same thing happened to DVD. Single layer, single sided DVD-Rs hold 4.7GB. You'd think.
But now Nagase comes along and releases these 4.85GB DVD-Rs. They have claimed they're compatible with existing burners/readers, so I guess this is to DVDs as 700MB CD-Rs were to CDs.

Today marks the start of the new fiscal year in Japan, meaning companies make announcements regarding prices of their products and such.
First up is Nagase, who lowered the price of their DVX-500, which I reported o­n a while back.

This is a firmware update to the DVX-200 player, not the DVX-500 that I reported o­n about a month ago. The most notable feature of the update is OGG support. They will also being selling D-Component cable for the player.

Nagase Nagase Industries, Inc. will begin selling the o­n-board ethernet, DivX/XviD support DVD player, the "DVX-500" o­n their website DVDirect on December 20th. The player is part of their TRANSTECHNOLOGY Project, aimed at providing a delicate balance between function and price.
