I am back from Europe, and a lot of the instability of life provided by school has come to an end. At least until August. I've promised myself at least three articles per day on TechJapan, but we all know how well things like that have worked out.
I do, however, have an article about Sharp's new Zaurus for you. It is more or less an update to their SL-C3000 PDA (the one with the hard drive [1], if you remember). The update includes more Flash ROM and some more integrated tools like a TOEIC training book. Not particularly enthralling, but at least Sharp is keeping the Zaurus line alive.
Sharp Corporation will release the "Zaurus SL-C3100" PDA with a hard drive on June 24th. It is Open Price, where the estimated retail price is around 80,000 yen.
This model is an update to the "SL-C3000" released in 2004, where the new model features a 128MB Flash ROM, "TOEIC Test English Phrase Mastery 2000," "weekly TOEIC mini-training 25 weeks" and related English contents, as well as "Project X 20 Volumes" business contents. In total, there are 19 contents that have been added.
Other specifications, as far as hardware goes, remains largely the same. It features a PXA270 416MHz CPU, 64MB of RAM (work area), 4GB hard drive, 640 x 480 display (3.7"), SD card slot, Type2 CF slot, USB port, and infrared port.
Functionality also keeps after the "SL-C3000," such as being recognized as external storage when connect to a PC via USB, viewing/editing of Word, Excel, and Text files, and so on. Synchronization with Windows Media Player 10 is also supported, and the device can play MP3 and WMA audio files.
The battery is a rechargeable lithium ion, with a constant display time of 7 hours (when displaying the calendar). The body size is 124 x 87 x 25mm (W x D x H), and it weighs about 298g.
