Sega Toys and Tadayuki Ohira have gotten together to bring us the HOMESTAR planetarium. Unlike previous planetariums for home use which have used a pinhole projection system, the HOMESTAR uses an optical projection system to deliver brighter and sharper images. All for about US$200.  Sega Toys and planetarium developer, Takayuki Ohira, will release the world's first optical planetarium for home use, the "HOMESTAR" (provisional name), in July. The planetarium can display approximately 10,000 stars up to class 6.5. It will be priced at 20,790 yen. The HOMESTAR is a planetarium for home use jointly developed by Homestar and Takayuki Ohira. It uses a projection lens to display images of stars on a wall or screen. This functionality is comparable to that of industrial versions. The HOMESTAR uses a super-wide projection lens and unique projection mechanism to achieve a level of luminance and sharpness not possible with previous pinhole projection-based home planetariums. Constellation images and lines can also be added to the display for educational purposes.
