IO Data is releasing 3 new USB flash memory products with a twist - they come with a copy of JR's Travel Navigator software for searching train timetables and routes. According to the company, the benefits of this are that you can save on hard disk space and take the timetable with you when you travel. Yeah right. They seem to have forgotten the fact that these benefits are already available to anyone in Japan with a mobile phone (i.e. 99.99% of the population) using one of the many timetable search websites.  IO Data will release 3 new USB flash memory products bundled with JR's "Travel Navigator" train timetable software under the "ToteBag" name by the end of March. The new products will be priced at 7,560 yen (512MB), 14,490 yen (1GB) and 28,140 yen (2GB). Supported operating systems are Windows Me, 2000 and XP. The JR Travel Navigator, which comes on CD, allows domestic train routes and fares to be searched. Seat and accommodation bookings can also be made based on search results. The software comes with February 2005 data and can be update free of charge for up to 30 days if the user registers as a JR Travel Navigator user. According to IO Data, installing the software on the USB flash memory drive saves hard drive space and allows the user to access the data when they are on the move. The ToteBag support USB2.0 and and has an aluminium case. It is 16.2 x 73 x 7 mm in size and weighs approximately 12 grams. The maximum write speed is 10MB/sec.
