If you are for some reason opposed to the purchase of Green House products, look into Toshiba's portable DVD player also announced today. I likewise has a 7" widescreen LCD, can play JPEGs, and appears to have similar specifications all-around. It's about 40,000 yen, too, so you pay a bit more for the brand-name. Interestingly enough, Toshiba will be releasing a TV tuner attachment to go with this player. Toshiba Corporation will release the "SP-P1600" portable DVD player with a 7" widescreen LCD in the middle of March. Its nickname is the "Porta-Loo." (Translator's note: just kidding. The nickname doesn't translate, so I won't even bother) There is no set retail price, but estimates dictate it will cost around 40,000 yen. The SP-P1600 is a portable DVD player that remains as the successor to the 7" widescreen "Porta-Loo SD-P1400" released in December of 2004. It includes a battery pack, and will play for about 3 hours straight. Apart from DVD-Video, this puppy can also play DVD-R (Video format), Audio CD, and JPEG images stored on CD-R/RW. It supports a video DAC of 10bit/54Mhz, and an audio DAC of 192kHz/24bit. Speakers are on the body, and it offers up two headphone jacks. 3D surround functions, as well as a standard/jazz/hall/stadium equalizer is provided. Output jacks are an AV output (composite/stereo audio), optical digital, and two headphone outputs. An AV input (composite/stereo audio) is also provided. The external dimensions are 190 x 145 x 30.5mm (Translator's note: about the same as two DVD cases) making it about 20% smaller than the previous hoser, and the unit weighs roughly 690g without the battery. A remote control, headphones, and AV input/output cable are included. As an option, Toshiba will also release the "SD-PTN16" TV tuner kit mid-March. Its dimensions are 60 x 100 x 23mm (W x H x T), and it weighs about 150g -- this makes it 1/3rd as large as the previous "SD-PTN14" model. Power is supplied to it from the SD-P1600. Also, it not only has VHF, UHF, and CATV tuners, but an FM tuner as well. Audio is monoaural. Operation of the SD-PTN16 is done with the remote included with the SD-P1600.
