Looking like something from a Kubrick or Ridley Scott film, ASUS’s new VENTO 3600 is sure to appeal to the home-built market who also care about style and design. However, good looking things cost a good amount of money.

ASUS has started making the VENTO 3600, a steel ATX mid-tower case with a futuristic rounded design. It looks like it came out of a sci-fi movie with its top-opening front panel and a unique dial-operated side panel opening mechanism.

The cases come in red, green, or blue and are priced at 23,480 yen. Power supply is not included.

The VENTO 3600’s rounded design looks like a spaceship from a sci-fi movie or a futuristic pickle. The streamlined ventilation slots in the bottom and the glossy paint job make it hard to believe that it’s a computer case.

To help add to the novelty of the case, the front cover slides upwards, like a visor on a motorcycle or space suit helmet. The side panel can be slid open after turning a dial lock.

The case measures 308mm x 527mm x 627mm (W x T x D). It has four 5-inch drive bays, a 3.5-inch drive, and three 3.5-inch shadow drives. There is one 80mm front case fan and one 120mm rear fan.

The major drawbacks of the case are it’s width and the cost but, those who place a high value on case design and sci-fi fans will be sure to want one.

ASUS’s decision to invest in such a case design represents a major trend shift by major manufacturers to pay more attention to the increasing importance on appearance and design.

The stylish charm rejects the recent boom of cube PC’s, reflecting uniqueness and design that isn’t represented by the major manufacturers. It should be popular with people who like to customize their PC’s.

To have something unique which looks like a sports or luxury car, but also home-built will only cause it’s advantages again it’s major competitors to rapidly increase. The VENTO 3600 may represent the beginning of a new and overwhelming trend of design.
