The company is a joint venture between Toshiba and Samsung, and will be named "Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology Corporation." Details inside.
Toshiba Corporation and Samsung Corporation announced on January 13th that they have finalized plans for their joint venture into the optical disc markets.
The new company will be called "Toshiba Samsung Storage Technologies Corporation" and will begin operation on April 1st. It will be getting into the optical disc market for home PCs, such as CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives - and doing everything from product development to supplying raw materials. The new subsidiary is planned to be started in Korea.
Which is funny, because Toshiba is actually fronting 51% of the investment - 7,000,000,000 yen. The president of Toshiba Digital Media Networks will be the president of this company, which will start out with 700 employees.
