Like the Evangelion iPod [1] announced on Tuesday, Bandai is releasing an "Ultraman Edition" of the Exilim Zoom EX-Z55. Bandai Networks Corporation will begin accepting preorders for the "EXILIM ZOOM EX-Z55 'ULTRAMAN MODEL'" digital camera on their direct sale site beginning on the 17th. The price is 57,750 yen. only 100 of each color (suede brown and silver) will be product, and they have serial numbers. This product is based on the 5MP compact digital "EXILIM ZOOM EX-Z55" camera released by Casio in September. To commemorate the release of the "ULTRAMAN" movie on the 18th, a logo plate is featured on the camera itself, and the included cradle. There are no differences as far as the digital camera functions are concerned -- still a 5MP CCD, still a 2.5" LCD monitor, still a 3x optical zoom, and so on. On the lower left of the front of the unit is an ULTRAMAN logo plate made of aluminium. The logo plate is either plated with a brown color plating for the suede brown body colored camera, or plated with a silver color plating for the silver colored camera. Although the cradle features this same logo, the color of its plating is the same for both camera body colors. Also, the wakeup image has been changed to show a scene from the movie and its logo for about 2 seconds when the camera is started. Orders will be taken at the "LaLaBit MARKET" website, "Bandai Chara Store" cell phone site, and by phone (Tel. 0570-000-782) beginning on the 17th. Because the units will be produced by lot, the production could be cancelled if the number of orders does not reach 100. The image sensor is a 1/2.5 type CCD with an effective 5MP resolution. The lens is an smc PENTAX lens with 3x optical zoom. Apart from furnishing a 2.5" LCD monitor on the back of the camera, it has an optical viewfinder. The recording media is SD memory card/MMC. The external dimensions are 87 x 22.5 x 58mm (W x D x H), and it weighs about 130g.
