Here's the smallest dual layer DVD burner I've seen thus far.
IO Data Device Corporation will release the "DVRP-UN8W," a slim portable DVD±R/RW drive that supports writing of DVD+R DL, in late December. Its price is 26,565 yen.
This is a recordable DVD drive that uses NEC's "ND-6500A" drive. The write speed for DVD+R DL is 2.4x, DVD±R at 8x, and DVD±RW at 4x. It will convert DVD+R DL's media type (BookType) to DVD-ROM, giving it a higher reliability. Furthermore, it does not support reading or writing DVD-RAM.
The external dimensions are 138 x 162 x 22mm (W x D x H), and it weighs about 440g. It supports vertical operation. The interface is USB 2.0. It also includes the "Mihatto Tray" utility software that includes the "Auto Eject Function" to protect against forgetting to eject media when the PC is shutdown, and the "Media Icon Display Function" that will show the media type.
Bundled software includes "Ulead DVD MovieWriter 3 SE for I-O DATA" DVD authoring software, "B's Recorder GOLD BASIC Ver.7" writing software, "B's CLiP6" packet writing software," and "Photoshop Album2.0 Mini" graphic management software. Furthermore, DVD MovieWriter 3 SE also contains the "Ulead DVD Player" software for DVD playback. Supported operating systems for the included software are Windows ME, 2000, and XP.
