Elecom to purchase Logitec

Please note that "Logitec" is a Japanese company. "Logitech" is an American company.

Bust out the champagne, because Elecom announced today they would be purchasing Logitec.



Elecom announced o­n November 2nd their purchase of PC accessory maker Logitec.

Logitec has been expanding in the PC peripheral field with their input devices, supplies, and office machinery. So to coordinate the effortds of the two companies, a basic agreement was signed today that Elecom will purchase Logitec, holding the #3 spot for peripheral makers, Logitec's primary shareholder, Marubeni Infotech.

This purchase will put Elecom in the #3 spot based o­n sales of PC peripheral makers, behind Buffalo and IO Data Device. The company will become the top based o­n SKU (Stock Keeping Unit).

Logitec products will continue to be sold until March 2005 as they have until now under Marubeni Infotech, and transactions after April of 2005 will, after the successful markets have been confirmed, have control transferred to Elecom.

As for the Logitec brand itself, Mr. Junji Hada, Elecom's CEO, has said "we think it is important the there is brand strength and recognition in the storage sector, so we will continue to use it effictively."
