Courtesy of Taito, one of the most anticipated first-person shooters, "Half-Life 2", is coming to an arcade near you in 2005. Tatio will use their original "Type X" circuit board to power the game.

Taito will begin sales of an arcade version of "Half-Life 2" in summer 2005. Machine and per-game pricing are yet to determined.
Half-Life 2 is the newest release in the Windows FPS Half-Life series developed by America's Valve. The Windows version will go on sale in Japan from 17 November (distributor: Cyberfront) and in Europe from 16 November. Half-Life 2 has been attracting a lot of attention thanks to its "overwhelming graphical beauty". Taito will develop an arcade version for their original "Type X" circuit board. The Type X is an arcade game circuit board running Windows XP Embedded that can use the Windows game development environment.
The arcade game will be a customised version of the Windows software and will allow 3 game modes - a "Story mode" for single-player play, a "Battle mode" for players country-wide to compete in real-time and a "Mission mode" for players to collaborate tactically. The Taito NESYS (Net Entry System) used in games such as "Battle Gear 3" and "Zoid Infinity will be used for communication. As play data will be saved on a central server, play will be possible for any game centre around the country.
It is planned to use a cockpit-style seat for the game cabinet. Via a wide-screen display and 5.1ch surround sound, the arcade version will make it possible to enjoy a truly submersive gaming experience. At this point in time, no decisions have been made regarding the shape and form of the controller to be used.
As the Windows version of Half-Life 2 is popular around the world, beginning with Japan, world-wide sales are also part of Taito's outlook.
