Toshiba continues their unstoppable march towards world domination of the notebook market with the release of three new Qosmio AV notebooks, including two with 17" widescreen displays. Notable features of the new machines include dual-layer compatible DVD Super-Multi drives and up to 160GB of storage!
Toshiba has added 3 widescreen notebooks to their Qosmio AV notebook line. The notebooks will go on sale from late October with no set price. The notebooks will run Windows XP Home edition (SP2) and include Office Personal Edition 2003 and OneNote 2003.
Toshiba's proprietary "Qosmio Engine", which enhances image quality, has been further improved in the new machines with the addition of automatic contrast control and non-linear scaling, which automatically fits 4:3 TV broadcasts to the notebook's widescreen display.
In addition to the front AV operation panel and Harmon Kardon stereo speakers of current models, the new Qosmio models also include a dual-layer-compatible DVD Super-Multi drive.
Two of the new notebooks sport a 1440x900 17" Clear Super View LCD display - the flagship Qosmio G10/27LDER and the lower-specced Qosmio G10/27LDEW. Expected street prices for the G10/27LDER and G10/27LDEW are approximately 330,000 yen [1] and 300,000 yen [2] respectively.
To increase available strorage space, the flagship model Qosmio contains 2 x 2.5" 80GB hard disk drives. The lower-spec model contains only one 80GB drive.
The remaining specs on the two 17" models are mostly
identical. Both machines have a 1.6GHz Pentium-M 725 CPU, 512MB RAM (Max 2GB), Intel 855PM chipset, GeForce FX Go5700 video and a realtime hardware-encoding TV tuner.
Input/output nterfaces include 802.11a/b/g wireless LAN, Bluetooth 1.2, Ethernet, Type2 PC Card slot x 1, SD Card/Memory Stick (PRO)/xD-Picture Card slot, USB2.0 x 4, IEEE1394 x 1, D-Sub15 (VGA), S/PDIF and a D-terminal.
The lithium-ion battery provides 2.4 hours of continuous operation. The notebooks are 406 mm x 285 mm x 37.5-43.5 mm (WxDxH) in size and weigh approximately 4.4kg.
The Qosmio F10/2WLDEW has a 1280x800 15.4" Clear SuperView display and will go on sale from late October at an estimated street price of 270,000 yen [3].
The specifications of the Qosmio F10 are the same as the 17" models, with the exception of the standard 256MB RAM (Max 2GB) and a 80GB hard drive.
The battery provides 2.5 hours of operation. The dimensions of the F10 are 373 mm x 285 mm x 43.1-44.2 mm. It weighs approximately 3.9 kg.
