I just can't stop myself from reporting on these high-speed flash memories, for some reason.

This time around, we have 20MB/sec SecureDigital media from Matsushita (Panasonic).

Matsushita Electric Industrial Corporation will release the "PRO HIGH SPEED SERIES" of SD Memory Cards, which feature an internal data transfer speed of 20MB/sec, on October 15th. They are Open Price.

The estimated retail price for the 1GB "RP-SDK01GJ1A" is 27,000 yen, and for the 512MB "RP-SDK512J1A," 13,000 yen.

The PRO HIGH SPEED series features a newly developed system design focused on high speed data transfer to actualize a 20MB/sec internal data transfer speed, and this speed represents about twice that of the existing "SUPER HIGH SPEED series." But SUPER sounds faster than PRO, so what's up Matsushita?

While the cards are compatible with existing SD Memory Card interfaces, the maximum transfer rate will be 10MB/sec. Because of this, along with the PRO HIGH SPEED SERIES, Matsushita will release the "BN-SDDAP3" PC Card adapter at the same time to enable the cards to be used at the 20MB/sec speed.

Other features include CPRM code/mutual certification technology support. A card case with a dust-cleaning ability (to clean foreign particles from the connectors) is included.
