I was under the impression that all infrared transmissions were digital, but I guess I was wrong.
JVC has announced the "HP-W1000" headphones that feature a full digital transmission process, from input to output. Except when it leaves the headphones, I presume.

Japan Victor Corporation will release the "HP-W1000" headphones on November 10th, which are wireless surround headphones that feature a full digital transmission process - from input to output. They are listed as Open Price, but the estimated retail price is around 42,000 yen.

This wireless headphone system consists of both headphones with integrated receiver and transmitter box with various input jacks. The transmitter box is equipped with two optical digital inputs, and audio data can be transferred without compression using digital infrared. The frequency response is from 12Hz to 22kHz.

By making the transmission process from input to headphone output fully digital, JVC has said that the system allows for a clear sound low on noise. The range of the transmitter, in front of it, is around 8m.

Also, the headphones contain "Dolby Headphone" technology which reproduce a virtual multi-channel surround sound on headphones. Not only are Dolby Digital EX, DTS-ES, and AAC surround formats supported, a Dolby Pro Logic II decoder is also furnished. Because the transmitter box also features an analog stereo input, various sound sources such as DVD Video and game units can be enjoyed.

The headphone uses a neosium driver unit with a 40mm diameter. Power is supplied from exclusive NiMH rechargable batteries, and normal AAs can also be used. An auto power-off function is also featured. Recharing the headphones is done by connecting them to an AC adapter.

Furthermore, the transmitter box also features a headphone jack, so headphones with a normal cord can also be used.

The frequency response of the headphones is from 12Hz to 22kHz. The weight including batteries is 320g. The weight of the transmitter is 350g, and it can also be placed vertically. A vertical stand, optical digital cable (1.5m), and cleaning cloth are included.
