Besides two of the sexiest fingers I've ever seen, Sharp demonstrates once again that they have the capability to make cool shit happen to cell phones.
This time around, "cool shit" comes in the form of a 2MP CCD camera module, complete with 2x optical zoom and autofocus.
Sharp will begin shipments of the "LZ0P3738" 2MP CCD camera module with 2x optical zoom and AF functions, in October. The sample price is 26,250 yen.
The "LZ0P3738" is a 2 megapixel CCD camera module intended for use in high-level of functionality cellular phones with cameras. It contains autofocus and zoom functions, and the standard/2x optical conversion zoom uses an inner-zoom system so as to not protrude from the lens section. Therefore, this camera module is also suited for flip-style phones.
Sharp had previously offered the 2MP "LZ0P3731" camera module with autofocus functions. The addition of a 2x optical zoom to the module is thought of to be a response to the ever-growing need for increased functionality. Furthermore, Sharp plans for a monthly production of 400,000 units.
