Vertex Link has a new network AV player that supports Windows Media Video 9; this is the first time I've seen it on a player like this.
For those of you that don't know, Windows Media Video 9 supports HDTV resolutions. This player supports output up to 720p. It's got integrated 802.11g as well, which is nice.

Vertex Link Cproration will release the "MediaWiz HD," a network media player that supports the playback of Windows Media Video 9, in the back part of August. It is Open Price, but the estimated retail price is around 37,000 yen. Sales to corporate customers will begin in the back part of July.

This is the upper level model of the "MediaWiz Plus," which is itself the newer version of the "MediaWiz" released in February - a media player that can output video data stored on a PC to a TV. By simply installing the included "MediaWiz Server" on a PC, it can act as a video server to output contents to a TV.

Basic functions are controlled with a remote, and multiple video servers can be establish. Playback is only a matter of choosing video or audio data from inside a specified folder. The software supports Windows 98 SE, ME, 2000, and XP.

Likewise, the case design of the player has been renewed. Furthemore, just like its brethren, it supports the output of MPEG-1/2, XviD, RMP4, and MPEG-4 (Advanced Simple Profile). But perhaps the biggest improvement in this model is the use of the Sigma Designs "EM8620L" decoder chip, giving it the capability to playback Windows Media Video 9. Output of WMV9 up to 720p is supported.

Audio data supported is MPEG audio, MP3, WMA, OGG Vorbis, and Dolby Digital. The display of JPEG, BMP, GIF, PNG and other still images is also supported.

Also featured is internal support for IEEE 802.11g LAN, allowing the player to operate in a high bitrate wireless LAN environment. With the addition of USB 2.0 ports on the front of the case itself, video and audio data stored on USB 2.0 hard drives or USB 2.0 memory card (readers) can be outputted. It cannot, however, provide bus power to USB hard drives that require it.

In addition to an Ethernet port, it is furnished with Component, S-Video, Composite, and DVI video outputs. The audio outputs are optical digital, coaxial digital, and analog. Its external dimensions are 268 x 175 x 38mm (W x D x H), and it weighs about 782g including the antenna. A remote controller is included..
