Another world's smallest hard drive

At 0.85 inches, it's smaller than a MicroDrive.



Toshiba Corporation presented that they have developed a 0.85 inch hard drive, which is the world's smallest.

The disk's diameter is smaller than that of a 500 yen piece. Even with the drive mechanism and other components surrounding the disk itself, it is still smaller than a MicroDrive, which uses a 1 inch hard drive. Recording capacity is at 2~3GB, and it is planned for use in devices like cellular phones.

Mass production is supposed to start o­n or after 2005, and the OEM price will be around 30,000 yen.
