I always have wondered how LCD projectors work.
Not that this article explains it, but still...

Epson introduces the "D5 series" with enhanced angle and contrast.

Seiko Epson Corporation announced on the 28th that they have developed the "D5 series" of high temperature polysilicon TFT LCD panels intended for use in home theater projectors and bigscreen projection TVs. Sample shipments are scheduled to begin in the 3rd quarter of 2004.

This new series features a 20% greater angle, and 50% greater contrast than the existing "D4 series." More brightness has been gotten out of the same lamp, and the same resolution has been achieved with a smaller panel.

Speaking of resolution, this panel features a 1284 x 724 dot in 0.7". The D4 series features a panel with the same resolution, but this one features an increase in angle from D4's 50% to 60%, and a contrast ratio of 750:1 up from 500:1.
