Teac Corporation will begin releasing the "Flash Drive Smart II" USB 2.0 flash memory series in the middle part of June. The price is Open Price. Supported operating systems are Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP, as well as Mac OS 9.0 ~ 9.2, and Mac OS X 10.1 ~ 10.3.
Capacities range from 128MB to 1GB, and the estimated retail prices of the units are, for the 128MB "UF-507TSM2," 6,090 yen, the 256MB "UF-508TSM2," 11,340 yen, the 512MB "UF-509TSM2" 20,790 yen, and finally the 1GB "UF-510TSM2," 41,790 yen. The UF-510TSM2 is planned for release in the middle of July.
When using USB 2.0, the write speed of the 507TSM2 is 9MB/sec, the 508TSM2 and 509TSM2 at 14MB/sec, and the 510TSM2 at 5.5MB/sec. The read speed of the 507TSM2 is 10MB/sec, the 508TSM2 and 509TSM2 is 17MB/sec, and the 510TSM2 is 16MB/sec. Teac has said that the read and write speeds of the 508TSM2 and 509TSM2 are "the world's fastest class."
A write protect switch is featured on the body of the unit, and security software is included. The size is 19 x 68 x 8mm (W x D x H), and they have a weight of 12g.
