This report comes from the TRONSHOW 2004, currently going on in Japan. The computer is based off of the T-Engine [1], an "open, standardized real-time operating system development environment for constructing a ubiquitous computing environment."
At the Personal Media Corporation and NEC booths, the Cube PC "T-Cube," using a T-Engine base, was being displayed.
[2] The main body of the palm-size T-Cube is 52x52x45mm (W x D x H), and weighs 165 grams. It has a MIPS architecture NEC VR5701 400 mHz CPU, can have 64MB or 128MB or memory, and supports displays up to 1,280x1,024 (SXGA) resolution. The interfaces are 1 CF slot, Ethernet, 2 USB ports, an RS-232C, D-Sub 15 pin, and Audio In/Out.
The OS is the T-Kernel, with a simple GUI shell, that supports Kana/Kanji conversion, word processing, and a web browser.
Planned for release in March of 2004, it will most likely be used for business applications. The price has not been presented yet.
