Now that DivX is "officially supported," I suppose that means you can call them and complain if your porn doesn't work? Buffalo Corporation will release a new model of their "LinkTheater" DVD player with an Ethernet port, the "PC-P2LAN/DVD," in the back part of June. The price is 26,565 yen. The LinkTheater can, of course, be used as a normal DVD player; but its main strength lies in its ability to play saved video, audio, and image contents stored on a PC on the same network, on a TV/other home theater equipment. Aesthetic changes in this model over the "PC-MP2000/DVD" include a half-mirror type front panel, giving it a classier design, and a front LED timer that displays "100%, 50%, OFF" though I have no idea what is 100%, 50%, or off. The company has acquired the new "DivX Certified Logo" for the unit, meaning DivX playback is officially support. Also, playable file extensions on disc media has been expanded to include m2p, AAC, and M4a file extensions. Playable video formats are MPEG-1/2, DivX, XviD, and RMP4. The maximum support bitrate for MPEG-2 is 10Mbps, and for DivX/XviD/RMP4, 1.5Mbps. Using Buffalo's "WLI2-TX1-G54" wireless 802.11g LAN convertor, the device can be operated in a wireless LAN environment. The included "PCast MediaServer" server software for PC is supported under Windows ME, 2000, and XP operating systems. When using the newest version of the "PCastTV" software included with Buffalo's PCI TV capture cards, users can download program scheduling data to the LinkTheater from their PC. Also, Buffalo's NAS devices support the output of saved video contents to the "LinkStation." Apart from a 100BASE-TX Ethernet jack, the unit also furnishes Component output, S-Video output, Composite output, Optical digital output, and analog audio output. The external dimensions are 420 x 265 x 50mm (W x D x H), and the weight is about 2.7kg.
