I'm pretty sure "external recording control" isn't the right terminology, but oh well. You can use your browser, or your cell phone, to control your DVD recorder through the Dimora network beginning today. The catch? Well, it costs money, and you have to be using a Matsushita "Diga" series DVD recorder.
Still, this is an excellent idea, especially for someone who doesn't pay attention to TV scheduling in advance.

Matsushita Electrical Industies Corporation will begin the operation of the the "Dimora" service on August 1st. "Dimora" is a network service that allows one to control their Matsushita "Diga" series DVD recorder while away, either by use of a cellular phone or PC. Furthermore, besides registration and some services, each service costs a certain amount of money to use. However, from June 7th (today) until July 31st, during the testing period, all services can be used free of charge.

"Dimora" is the nickname for the service provided both by Matsushita's portal site with various service provider. Apart from being able to search for programs with a PC or cellular phone and schedule recording with the DIGA series, services such as one to use a cellular phone as a DIGA remote controller (with an iAppli), and a service to save images in a cellular phone to the hard drive of the "DMR-E95H" are planned to be offered.

The contents, starting period, and price of each service are available below. Furthermore, in the case of scheduling recording with the Diga series or transferring images, apart from a normal internet connection, the "DY-NET2" Diga broadband receiver is needed (apart from the DMR-E200H).
