Three new 900i series (FOMA) phones were announced by NTT DoCoMo today:
-F900iT with a touchscreen and Bluetooth -P900iV with swivel screen, MPEG-4 recording, playback, AV out -N900iS with some minor improvements over the N900i
More information, and plenty of pictures (since I finally have access to the DoCoMo press kits) inside.
-F900iT
The F900iT is a Fujitsu FOMA unit that has a Bluetooth function and touch panel display. The "T" in "F900iT" is for "touchpanel." Common functions include "Dego Mail," "Character Phone," "Chaku Motion," 500kB iAppli support, and 100kB Flash contents support. A miniSD slot is also furnished.
The hinge part of the phone is a dual axis type, and the screen can be exposed even when the phone is closed through the "Touch Style" - it can then be operated using the included stylus. The main display is a 2.4" QVGA TFT LCD capable of displaying 262,144 colors, and iMode sites can be accessed while the phone is still closed, and contents written on the screen can be saved as images. For a subdisplay, the phone has a 1", 98 x 38 dot 3 color organic EL display.
A Bluetooth function is included, and three profiles are supported: Headset, DialUp, and HandsFree. To go with the release of the phone itself, a Bluetooth supporting headset is also planned for release, so that the phone can be used hands-free.
The phone is equipped with both a 1.28MP effective (1.23MP recorded) CCD external camera, and a 0.11MP effective (0.1MP recorded) camera above the main display. Although the menu system while using the camera is basically the same as the F900i, the camera's position has been moved to the middle of the reverse side of the phone's body, behind the number keys - this is so that the camera can (theoretically) be used horizontally.
With a size of 110 x 53 x 32mm, the phone weighs 154g. one body color is available: black. Idle time is around 450 hours while still, and 340 hours while movie. Although the continuous talk time is 140 minutes, it drops to around 100 minutes while using TV phone.
A demonstration at the announcement event gave a feel for operating the phone using the touch panel, as well as connecting the phone to PC using Bluetooth.

-P900iV
The "P900iV" is a FOMA unit from Panasonic Mobile Communications that features a camera on the hinge section like the P2102V, and can be used in the "Movie Style" with the rotation of the display. The "V" in "P900iV" means Visual.
This phone features a 1.95MP effective (1.92MP recorded) CCD camera on the left side of the hinge part, and a 0.11MP effective (0.1MP recorded) CMOS camera above the main display. The camera will automatically start when the main display of the phone is both rotated 90 degrees and folded 90 degrees (this makes a lot more sense if you see the image below, and think of a camcorder). It can record not only still images, but 320 x 240 (QVGA) size, 768kbps MPEG-4 movies. The "Alpha Blend Movie Editing Function" allows for still images containing characters to overlap movies (think subtitles). Using the cable included in the package, it can also output video to TVs and projectors using the "AV Output Function."
The main difference between this phone and the "P2101V" that had a dual axis hinge is how this phone can be used with the display exposed, called "Viewer Style." According to a Panasonic representative, this is "for viewing high quality movies with a horizontal style," perfect for viewing movies stored in the miniSD card. At the demonstration, video data with a 1.5Mbps bitrate at 60 seconds (filesize 6MB) was played, making for a much more detailed movie playback than existing units.
With a size of around 102 x 50 x 27mm, the phone weighs 138g. The still idle time is around 500 hours, and the moving idle time is around 350 hours. Although the continuous talk time is about 150 minutes, it drops to around 90 minutes when using TV Phone. Three body colors are available: Champagne Gold, Cloud Black, and Bronze Orange. Each of the colors also has "hairline" lines etched into it, and when this is used with metallic paint, gives the phones a very strong metallic appeal.

-N900iS
The "N900iS" is a FOMA unit from NEC that, although the design remains basically the same as the N900i released in February, has improvements in many small details. In keeping with the tradition of the iS series, this is the "Second" model.
For a main display, a 2.2" TFT LCD capable of displaying 240 x 320 (QVGA) dots at 65,536 colors is used - the subdisplay is a 0.9" 120 x 30 dot 4,096 color STN LCD. The camera which records at 2MP is the same as that on the "N900i."
While the characteristic arch-lines and keys remain the same, they now go to the back of the phone, and there are 4 color variations - red, pink, black, and silver. The red color gives off a brilliant lustre.
The main improvements are the addition of 20 templates to Dego Mail creation, and the addition of icons on the menu when creating Dego Mail, making for easier operation. Also, the text input when writing mail has been upgraded to T9, meaning that Kanji can be chosen directly from the inputted characters. Also, a dictionary function, with English - Japanese, Japanese - English, and Japanese - Japanese has been added. Both the T9 text input and dictionary function are the same as that on the MOVA "N506i" series phone.
The size is 102 x 48 x 26mm, and the weight is 115g. Continuous still idle time is about 430 hours, and about 350 hours while moving. The continuous talk time is around 140 minutes, and around 90 minutes when using TV Phone.
