Pioneer's new plasma display panels (PDPs) can display 5.75 billion colors, thanks to its "direct color filter" technology.

Pioneer has announced 5 new models in its "Pure Vision" PDP line: PDP-505HDL and PDP-505HDS (50"), PDP-435HDL and PDP-435HDS (43"), and PDP-435SX (speaker/tuner all-in-one) to be released in June/July. In order to display 5.75 billion colors on these PDPs, they have added the new "Advanced Super Clear Drive" technology to their "P.U.R.E Drive" image processing circuit, as well as integrating a "Direct Color Filter" into the PDP itself instead of the traditional method of using a filter glass in front of the PDP. This also eliminates light wastage due to reflections between the filter glass and the PDP, thus increasing the contrast by 20%.

The 50" models can display resolutions up to 1,280x768, while the 43" models support up to 1,024x768 pixels. "Acoustic Swing Speakers" are used on the HDL versions so you can adjust the direction of these speakers. HDS versions have "2 way attachment speakers" under the panel. Digital TV tuners are present, both terrestrial and BS/CS110 satellites. You get HDMI, D4, D-Sub 15-pin, and S-video inputs, and S-video and optical digital audio outputs. SD card slot and IEEE1394 connectors are available for displaying images in your digital camera/cell phone, and T-Navi, the Internet information service for digital TVs, is also included. Dimensions and weights are: 505HDL/HDS: 1270x737x93mm, 32.8kg; 435HDL/HDS: 1120x652x93mm, 26.8kg; 435SX: 1168x753x123.5mm, 34kg. Expected prices are 850,000, 650,000 and 630,000 yen respectively ($7,500, $5,750, $5,570).
