Yamaha is set to release some speakers in the back part of December, which use magnesium for vibration and mahogany cabinets. They're pretty small too. Yamaha, Inc. is releasing home audio speakers using Magnesium for vibrations. The speakers, the "NS-pf7," are the small type, and will cost about 75,000 yen per pair.  [1]They have said about the speakers, "Our speakers feature a unique blend of both new technology and investment in new materials, with the base of craftsmanship." The speakers support 70Hz~45kHz(-10dB), with an input of 25W, and an output of 80dB/2.83V,1m. Since the cabinet is made from mahogany, it not only protects against internal resounding waves, but also employs a three dimensional shape which allows external waves to bounce off easily. The wood is stained wine red, and is mirrored using polyeruthane, producing a high-class feel. The unit, having a 7cm full range, represents the first time magnesium is being used for home audio. Regarding the small full range, Yamaha has said "The audio environment has been expanded to nearly match what the actual performer hears; from low bass tones to the highest pitches, the smoothness has been represented very well." Also, the magnetic circuit employs a 30mm Neodynium magnet, as well as a 25mm voice coil. Since the device uses an external yoke for the internal magnet, there was no need for a cancelling magnet. The speaker connector is a gold plated screw type. The speaker stands are pure brass, which is made using the same manufacturing standards as the high quality brass used in Yamaha's musical instruments. The speakers can tilt up to 10 degrees. The external dimensions are 87 x 143 x 183 (W x D x H) and weigh 1.4kg. A 4 meter speaker cable and polishing cloth are included.
