The video player is meant to be used with the "GR-HD1" HDV video camera. It supports the 720p HDV format, and can also dub via i.Link. Victor of Japan, Inc. is releasing the "CU-VH1" High-Definition video player to be used with their "GR-HD1" High-Definition camera, which supports resolutions up to 720/30p. The official price is open, but indicators suggest it will be around 250,000 yen.  [1]It is a portable player for use with the home-based High Definition camera, also by Victor, called the "GR-HD1." It can play DV tapes recorded in the 720/30p High Definition formats, as well as normal DV (480/60p), and then just DV at 480/60i. Although the HDV standard allows for High Definition video of up to the 1080i resolution to be recorded onto a DV tape, the "CU-VH1" does not support them. Also, when connected to the GR-HD1 via i.Link, the device can dub movies recorded on the GR-HD1. Dubbing has the same three modes as the camera side, with HD, SD, and DV. Also, when connecting the CU-VH1 to other Victor/JVC products via i.Link (such as D-VHS or DV decks), these devices can record movies from the GU-VH1. On the main body of the unit is a 3.5 inch LCD display, and inside it has an HD/SD upconvertor, and also a downconvertor. This makes it possible to playback the High Definition movies on TVs that don't support High Definition, as well as playing SD videos on High Definition TVs. In addition to an i.Link connector, it also has a USB connector, Component Video Out (BNC), S-Video In/Out, Composite In/Out, Audio In/Out, Headphone Out, and Microphone In. There is also a SD/MMC memory card slot. Power comes from an AC adapter, but it can also be battery powered. The included "BN-V416" battery can playback DV films for 1 hour 40 minutes with the LCD on, and SD/HD films for 1 hour 30 minutes. There is also an extended life battery kit, which can playback HD movies for 2 hours and 50 minutes, called the "BN-V428", at around 19,800 yen. There is also the 4 hour HD "VU-V840KIT" for 19,800 yen, with playback at 4 hours, and the 5 hour and 40 minute "VU-V856KIT" for 29,800 yen. The external dimensions are 211x154x52 (W x H x D), and it weighs 1,005 grams as just the main unit, 1,145 with a battery and tape. A BNC converting adapter is included, as well as a shoulder strap and wireless remote.
