Remember that 400GB hard drive [1] from Hitachi Global Storage Technologies? The one that supports Serial ATA? Well, guess what. According to Akiba PC Hotline, the T-ZONE. PC DIY SHOP in Akihabara, Tokyo will have a few of these drives in stock on the 24th. The price is 52,290 yen.
It is expected after much anticipation that the "HDS724040KLSA80," in the Hitachi 400GB, 3.5" large volume, S-ATA supporting HD line, "Deskstar 7K400," will debut this week. T-ZONE. PC DIY SHOP expects to have a shipment come in on the 24th (Sat.). The expected price is 52,290 yen [2], and there will be a small quantity of the drives available.
The "Deskstar 7K400" is a single drive with 5 different platters, allowing for a capacity of 400GB. The major specifications are, a disk rotation speed of 7,200 RPM, a maximum internal transfer speed of 94.6MB/sec (757Mbits/sec), an 8MB buffer, and an idle sound level of 31dB. A parallel ATA model, the "HDS724040KLAT80," with mostly the same specifications, is also in the lineup.
Although the idle sound level is comparatively large, being able to secure a 400GB capacity in a single drive bay is a good prospect, particularly for users of smaller PCs.
Other shops, including BLESS Akihabara Head Office and Kousoku Dennou, plan to receive shipments this week. The price is not yet decided.
