A next generation camera using the QHD format was tested during November, which is eventually aimed at international adoption. The camera was tested in an outdoor environment.

Communications Research Laboratories, Inc. presented that they have experimented with use of their next generation camera outside during the month of November. The next-generation camera has been confirmed to work in normal, everyday situations, hopefully allowing for it to be adopted worldwide and become a new standard.

Tested this time was a camera using the Quadruple HD (QHD) format, which has twice the horizontal and vertical resolution of current High Definition. The resolution is 3,840 x 2,048 pixels (W x H). CRL developed a CMOS system supporting QHD, as well as a standard studio camera sized camera with the same power consumption.

The QHD camera was tested in the areas surrounding Kyoto. It was able to be used with photography equipment such as cranes and dollies, etc. and can use the same lighting conditions, power sources, and shared other consistencies with current equipment.

The film recorded this time is to be played at Paris's "3rd Annual Beauty of Japan Digital Film Festival." The system for playback was created by Nippon Telephone and Telegraph (NTT), which is an ultra-high quality digital cinema presentation system.

After this, further evaluations will be conducted in Japan, and a push to make QHD the next-generation television standard will be aimed at the international community.
