IO Data enters the 8x media market, which likely means lower prices all across the board - IO Data typically offers low cost (yet not necessarily low quality) products. IO Data Electronics Corporation will ship 8x write supporting DVD-R media and DVD+R media sometime in March. There is the "DVD-8R4.7" 5 disc DVD-R pack, and the "DVD-8R4.7P" 5 disc DVD+R pack, each available for 4,200 yen. Both of these media support writing at 8x. The price for one disc comes to 840 yen.
