This is the first time something like this has been done, according to Matsushita. It writes DVD+R, DVD-R, and some other formats you probably won't ever use. Seriously, who uses DVD-RAM anyway?

Matsushita Electric Industries Corporation will release the "LF-P667C" portable DVD super-multi drive on March 20th. The price is Open Price, but indicators suggest it should cost around 33,000 yen [1]. Supported operating systems are Windows ME, 2000, and XP.

The write speeds are as follows: DVD-RAM 2x, DVD-R 4x, DVD+R/RW 2.4x, DVD-RW 2x, CD-R 16x, and CD-RW 8x. It has a 2MB buffer, and according to Matsushita, is the world's first portable DVD super-multi specification drive.

Included software is the DVD editing software "DVD-MovieAlbumSE 4," DVD authoring software "MyDVD LE Ver.5," writing software "B's Recorder GOLD BASIC Ver. 7," packet writing software "B's Clip 5," as well as the DVD playback software "WinDVD 5."

The interface of the drive is USB 2.0. The main unit's size is 130 x 154 x 17mm (W x D x H), and it weighs a mere 315g. An AC adapter and dedicated USB cable are included.
