A newcomer to the scene, Zox Corporation, will release a portable DVD player that also plays DivX and XviD files. This product was displayed at the recent Tokyo International Gift Show, but a few more details have been released about it.
Unfortunately, the price for the player is getting up there - 49,800 yen. Regardless of the cost, you cannot defeat the portability aspect of having an all-in-one unit.



Zox Corporation will release the "ZPD-200E (temporary name)" in the back part of April, which is a portable DVD player that supports the playback of DivX files. It is officially Open Price, but indicators suggest the price will be around 49,800 yen. The first shipment will be limited to o­nly 300 units, available o­nly by mail order or the company's direct sale website.

In addition to normal DVD video, the player supports playback of versions 4.02 - 5.11 of DivX, and XviD. Supported discs are DVD Video, Audio CD, Video CD, and DVD-R/RW. It can also play MP3 files stored o­n CD-R/RW discs.

[1]The player features a 7 inch wide LCD display, with a resolution of 800x480. Using an internal Li-Ion rechargeable battery, playback time is about 3 hours. The battery is connected to the back of the unit. Charging requires about 6 hours.

There is o­ne S-Video and o­ne Composite output for video. It includes a Dolby Digital and DTS decoder, with an analog audio out, as well as Coax Digital. There is also o­ne headphone output jack. The external dimensions are 208 x 155 x 40mm (W x D x T). Including the rechargeable battery, it weighs 980g. Power consumption is 12W.
