Sony's new IC recorder offers MP3 playback and data storage, in addition to the standard range of features.

Sony will on May 10th release two models of voice recorder that feature MP3 playback support and a data storage function. They are Open Price.

The estimated retail price of the "ICD-U70," which contains 1GB of internal flash memory, is 20,000 yen; the 512MB "ICD-U60" is estimated to be around 15,000 yen.

Also usable as USB memory, these units are voice recorders that fulfill three roles at once. The body has a USB connector, so it can connect to a PC without using something like an adapter.

MP3s that have been transferred from a PC can be played, but recording into the MP3 format with the unit's microphone is not supported.

Power is supplied by one AAA battery. In HQ mode, it will allow for 11 hours of recording of 13 hours of playback (when using the included earphones), and in LP mode, 16.5 hours of recording and 19 hours of playback (same).

The body size is 30 x 20 x 99.7mm (W x D x H), and the weight is 64g. The "ICD-U70" will be available in silver, and the "ICD-U60" will be available in blue and white.
