Here's a new DVD drive from IO Data that is actually has two disc readers, enabling users to make copies of discs without using their PC.

IO Data Device Corporation will release the "DVR-UW8DP" in mid-March, which features 2 DVD drives and can make DVD/CD copies without a PC. Its price is 55,650 yen. Supported operating systems are Windows Me, 2000, and XP.

The drive features two "DV-W28SL" slot loading drives from Teac, and has a featured called "Duplicator Mode" that allows DVDs and CDs to be copied without connection to a PC. After putting the copy source in the top drive, inserting a media into the bottom drive will automatically begin copying. There are also functions available for test writing, data verification after writing, and erasure of DVD±RW and CD-RW data. This feature is unable to copy discs that are protected, such as consumer-level DVD-Video discs.

The write speed of DVD+R DL is 2.4x, DVD±R 8x, DVD±RW 4x, DVD-RAM 5x, CD-R 24x,and CD-RW 16x. However, copying DVD-RAM is not supported under Duplicator Mode.

It will be recognized as an external DVD drive when connected to a PC. "B's Recorder GOLD8 Security" writing software is included. The dimensions are 162 x 240 x 48mm (W x D x H), and the weight 1.5kg.
