Panasonic has announced a new portable projector with an SD card slot, making it the smallest and lightest such projector in the world.
Matsushita Electric Industrial Corporation will release the "TH-P1SD" projector on February 23rd. It is furnished with an SD card slot, and supports the display of digital camera still images. It is listed at Open Price, but is estimated to cost around 140,000 yen. 30 units will be available as a test sale via the "PanaSense" shopping website, and 500 units per month will be manufactured.
It is the world's smallest and lightest LCD projector. It has a 0.6" LCD panel with 800 x 600 dots, and uses three 4:3 panels. The lens has a 1.2x manual zoom, and supports projection from 30 inches to 300 inches. The light source is a 130W UHM lamp, with a brightness of 1,500 lumens.
The device was planned to have features for both home theater projectors and data projectors. Panasonic recommends using them with a digital camera, as they are equipped with an SD slot. It is also equipped with resizing circuitry so the intricate information in even high resolution images is not left out, and there is also a photo mode for displaying still images.
JPEG formatted still images can be displayed. In addition to a list view that uses thumbnails, it can also do a slideshow display. Wipe, fade, split, blind, checker, slide-in, random, and no effect are selectable as transition effects. It can also play Motion JPEG formatted videos, such as those recorded by the company's "LUMIX" series of digital camera.
"Image Creator 1.5," which converts PowerPoint data into JPEG images, is also included. This allows users to make simple, image-only presentations without using a PC.
The projector has a speed start function that will go from standby to displaying in about 2 seconds. Starting from an SD card takes about 10 seconds. As setup functions, users can take advantage of a function that will automatically power on the unit when an SD card is inserted, an input signal sensing function, an auto input channel select function, and automatic position correction. Also available is "SD card key," which restricts projection to only registered SD cards.
D-Sub 15 pin, Composite, and S-Video are available as video inputs. It also has two analog audio inputs.
