Casio Computer will release the XD-ST6200, an electronic dictionary with a text-to-speech function for six languages, on 17 February. It will have a recommended retail price of 47,250 yen.

The XD-ST6200 comes with synthesised tones for the English, German, French, Chinese, Italian and Spanish languages. Using the tones, specified words and example sentences can be read out from the dictionary's foreign language content. In the case of the Chinese language, the function can only be used for the "Single Traveller's Chinese" content.

In addition, Casio's "True Voice" speech technology is used to produce native pronunciation for the Genius English-Japanese dictionary (14,000 main words) and the English Conversation dictionary (3,3000 example sentences). Speech can be listened to on the internal speaker or earphones.

The 100 (that's right, one hundred!) installed dictionaries include the Kojien, Zenyaku Kogo Jiten, Kanjigen, Genius English-Japanese/Japanese-English dictionary, Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English, Katakana-Indexed Spelling dictionary, travel conversation references, MyPedia encyclopedic dictionary, medical dictionaries and the Nikkei personal computer dictionary.

The display is a backlit 480x320 5" superfine black and white LCD. Internal memory is approximately 20MB and an SD card slot is also provided. The dictionary is powered by 2 AAA alkaline batteries which provide approximately 60 hours of continuous usage under normal conditions. It is 144.5 x 99 x 14.7 mm in size and weighs approximately 250 grams (including batteries). Champagne gold, black and red body colors will be available.
