A digital camera with integrated wireless LAN support? Canon's new IXY DIGITAL WIRELESS brings IEEE 802.11b to the table, and will hopefully set a standard for the rest of the digital camera industry. Now someone just needs to make a video camera with integrated wireless LAN. Canon announced on the 25th that they will release the "IXY DIGITAL WIRELESS," a digital camera with integrated wireless LAN functionality that can wirelessly connect to printers and PCs, in early December. It is Open Price, but estimated to cost around 50,000 yen. This product is a compact digital camera that features integrated 802.11b standard wireless LAN, enabling it to wirelessly transfer recorded image data to PCs and printers. If the user sets a PictBridge supporting printer with the included "Wireless Print Adapter (WA-1)," they can print with no cables whatsoever. Because the WA-1 is preloaded with all necessary settings, wireless printing is ready to take place the instant the user inserts it in their machine. If used with a PC that features a wireless LAN function, "Wireless Direct Transfer" allows the camera to transfer images to the PC; "PC Connection Print" also allows users to print to a printer that is connected via the host PC, by way of the digital camera. Furthermore, "Photograph Synchronize Transfer" will synchronize the contents of the digital camera's memory card with the PC's hard drive, and "Wireless Remote Capture" allows the camera to be wirelessly controlled using the PC. These features can be used in both Ad-Hoc and Infrastructure environments. The basic specifications of the camera remain the same as the "IXY DIGITAL 60." It features a 5MP 1/2.5 CCD with a 3x optical zoom. It uses the "DIGIC II" image processing engine, and features a 2" backlit LCD on the back. The camera uses SD memory card.
