Omamori USB memory

The latest gimmick from SolidAlliance is called "Yuuesubi Mamory." It's a play on words that requires a bit of explanation. First of all, the name is written entirely in Kanji -- 遊恵寿比守, for those of you that have Japanese support -- and reading the Kanji phonetically produce "Yuuesubi Mamori," or "USB Mamory." The "Mamory" part isn't a typo for "Memory" either; "mamori" means "good luck charm" in Japanese. So, it's a good luck charm with integrated USB memory. If that makes sense.

SolidAlliance announced on the 17th the "Yuuesubi Mamory," USB memory with a good luck charm, and begun taking orders for it the same day. Two models will be available: one with 512MB of space, and another with 1GB. The price of the 512MB model in the "SolidAlliance-Store" is 17,800 yen, and the 1GB model is 27,800 yen. Shipments begin on the 27th.

"Yuuesubi Mamory" uses the high speed "i-Disk II 166X" USB memory from Pretec Electronics, and features a good luck charm case with "USB Mamory" written on it. The company said "it could become one part of the fashion of Japanese culture."

"It's not just a joke," said the company, giving reasons such as:

-The i-Disk II 166X's included utility software is a way of preventing information leaks

--The i-Disk II 166X contains "FlashMail" mail sending software, "MobileLock" for using the USB memory as a PC lock key, and "SecretZip" for automatic file compress/encryption.

-In the very bottom of the heart of Japanese people lies a profound respect for and fear of Omamori (we think)

--Losing an Omamori would induce "fear," and even give people tendencies towards feelings of guilt. So this product isn't something you just carry with you, but when you have your USB memory inside an Omamori bag, you'll be particularly careful to not lose it (we think).

-If you somehow lose it, there is little chance that someone will see the contents (we think)

--Looking at the contents of an Omamori bag isn't considered a good thing to do. So even if you were to lose it, it will show up at your local police box (Koban), and your data will not have gone anywhere (we think).

-The Omamori bag itself is a component of Japanese fashion

--Omamori. Something about them touches the hearts of Japanese people, protecting your data from leakage (we think).

...how profound.

Just the "bag" of the Yuuesubi Mamory will be available at "NetPrice" for 2,980 yen.
