Alpha-Data has been silent for quite some time. I guess they were working on this in the background.
It's a portable media player that has a 7" screen, yet has a surprisingly crappy 480 x 234 dot resolution. There's no internal hard drive, either. Hell, it doesn't even have a battery. I can only think of one application for such a product: commercial.
It's not all bad news, though, as it supports 7 different kinds of media.
Alpha Data Corporation will release their "AD-LCD7" media player with a 7" widescreen LCD and memory card slot, in late July. It is listed at Open Price, but estimated to cost around 40,000 yen.
The unit furnishes a 7" widescreen LCD with a resolution of 480 x 234 dots, as well as compability with MPEG-1/2/4, Motion JPEG (AVI), MP3, and JPEG files. It supports the playback of JPEG slideshows, as well as simultaneous playback of MP3 and JPEG.
It contains a memory card slot, which is compatible with CF Type I/II, Microdrive, MMC, SD, Memory Stick, and Memory Stick Pro. With an adapter, it can also take Memory Stick Duo.
On both sides of the unit are 1W stereo speakers. The memory card slot also features a theft-prevention cover, so the unit could be used for storefront PR. Power is supplied only by an AC adapter, and the unit does not contain a battery.
A 3.5mm size video input is provided, which allows for S-Video and composite input via the use of a included adapter cable. It also furnishes a stereo mini jack for audio use.
The external dimensions are 220 x 42 x 118mm (W x D x H), and it weighs about 490g. A card-style remote controller and video conversion cable are included.
