Health-related products sell in Japan like you wouldn't believe and Citizen has decided to get in on a piece of the action with the release of their "Personal Doctor" health management system. The software runs on any Windows PC and communicates wirelessly with supported health monitoring devices. A blood pressure monitor is the first device to be released.
"Personal Doctor" health management system and wireless BP monitor
Citizen Systems will release a PC-based health management system and an accompanying wireless electronic blood pressure monitor on 8 July.
The "Personal Doctor" health management system manages measurements obtained from supported devices as well as user-inputted data such as weight, number of steps and body fat percentage. It will be sold as a set with the 315MHz-band wireless receiver at a price of 12,075 yen. Supported operating systems are Windows 98, Me, 2000 and XP.
The receiver kit connects to a PC via USB and is bus-powered.
The "CH-425P" electronic blood pressure monitor is the first product to support the "Personal Doctor" system. It can communicate wirelessly with the PC up to 8 metres away when combined with the "HA-100TX" communication cartridge (3675 yen). The blood pressure monitor will have no recommended retail price but is expected to sell for approximately 8000 yen. It is powered by 4 AA batteries. A set of alkaline batteries will provide approximately 700 measurements.
