| · When was this site created? TechJapan began in its HTML infancy during late July and early August of 2003. I soon grew tired of HTML, so I decided to go with a Content Management System. I installed PostNuke, and it has worked well so far. After a bit of a hiccup in updating the site, likely caused by my first semester at college, I am now steadily updating. Back to top | |
| · How frequently do you update the site? Generally, I will add one article per day. But this number could increase, if I find that there is more than one article particularly interesting. However, there are some days when I am not able to do one article; due to personal issues, or press holidays in Japan. Back to top | |
| · How do you select which article(s) to translate? I try and find the articles which represent the most innovation. I will especially focus on "world's first" type articles. I also select articles that I feel have a significant value; the ones that are of particular importance to a certain product market. It more or less boils down to how important I feel something is. Back to top | |
| · How long does it take you to translate an article? Obviously, it depends on the length. For most "normal length" articles, I will spend about an hour total. I think the shortest time I've ever spent on one article was 20 minutes - this was translating it, uploading the pictures to the server, etc.. The longest time thus far is about 4 hours. | · What's with the theme? How come I can't change to my own preference? I don't think the other themes that I have installed go well with this site. If you find one that you think would go, let me know. As long as it's free, I'll install it for you and let people use it if they prefer. Me though, I think the light blue goes well. Back to top | |
| · Can I help? Sure! If you're interested in technology and the study of Japanese, I could certainly use the help. Just contact me. Back to top | |
| · How come you keep on saying "latter part" or "within the next 10 days," and other odd time periods? This is a slight problem with converting Japanese units to English units. While Western culture tends to break their months down into weeks (i.e. 4 weeks per month), the Japanese culture breaks it down into three 10 day periods, which effectively translate as: | |
| · What is "Open Price?" Open Price is when the manufacturer sets no specific price for their product. In American terms, it more or less means there is no MSRP. Back to top | |
| · What's with the Japanese "Other" Topic icons? Just felt like putting those there. Dunno, looks better than English being in there. I couldn't really decide on what to write for the boxes, so I just went with that. | |

Reads "sonota," meaning "Other." This is my catch-all topic.
Reads "keitai," short for "keitai denwa," or "cellular phone."
Reads "Kioku souchi," or "storage device."
Reads "tsuushin," or "communication."
Reads "shichou," meaning "audiovisual."
Reads "shuuhen kiki," meaning "peripherals."
Reads "pasokon," short for "personal computer."
