Not the first time we've talked about MP3 watches, but this could be the first time we've talked about one with an integrated voice recorder.
Thanko Corporation will be releasing the "Analog MP3 Watch with Voice Recorder," a wristwatch style MP3 player with voice recorder function on their "Rare Mono Shop." Set to be released on April 29th, there are three models of this watch to be available; the 128MB unit costs 12,800 yen, the 256MB model 15,800 yen, and the 512MB model 19,800 yen. Supported operating systems are Windows 98 SE, ME, 2000, and XP.
This model adds voice recorder functionality to the "Analog MP3 Watch" released in June of 2004. At the top part of the body is a microphone, which can record to the MP3 format in monaural, 64kbps 16kHz audio. Furthermore, recorded data can only be played on the watch itself. Also, deleting data must be done using a PC.
The unit contains flash memory, and supports the playback of MP3 files. It uses an analog-style face, and the band uses a "high quality feeling" metal. According to Thanko, "this watch fits well with the man of many talents. The design matches environments from the formal to the casual."
Supported playback bitrates are 32 to 256kbps. USB 1.1 is used to connect the watch to the device. A wind-up style USB cable is included. The watch supports the USB Storage class, so audio (and other) files can be transferred without the use of special software.
Power is supplied by an internal NiMH rechargeable battery. An AC adapter is included, and charging will take roughly 2 hours. The unit can play continuously for about 9 hours. Also, a button-style battery is inside the unit for keeping the time, so that even if the MP3 player battery were to die, there would be no effect on the watch itself.
The earphone jack uses a small style plug, and an adapter for 3.5mm stereo mini audio devices is included. Also included are roll-up earphones. The weight is from 150 to 180g.
