RockRidge Sound Japan will be releasing a device called the "Media Recorder VRX-02," which allows for recording PSP-compatible video directly to Memory Stick Duo. It's going to cost like 15,000 yen, too. Crossposted from PSP-Vault.

RockRidge Sound Japan Corporation will release the "Media Recorder VRX-02" this summer, a video recorder that can record MPEG-4 to SD Memory Card and Memory Stick. The company is aiming for a July release, and the product is listed at Open Price. Estimates indicate it should cost around 15,000 yen. Sales will be conducted by Taxan Corporation.

This is an MPEG-4 recorder that can record to memory cards without the use of a computer. It has only one card slot, and using miniSD and such requires an adapter. The supported memory cards include SD Memory Card, miniSD, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo, and Memory Stick PRO Duo.

The body is black with a luster finish, and with its blue display, "is designed to make you think of a stealth bomber or space fighter." By connecting it to a TV or video deck with the AV cable, and pushing "record," TV programs can be recorded to the memory card.

The four buttons on the unit will begin recording, and also allow for selecting recording format and mode. The unit will recognize input signals coming from video recorders on timers, so it can record on a set basis.

Its recording format is MPEG-4. 3GPP, 3GPP2, ASP MP4, and Mobile Movie are supported as file formats. Besides mobile phones, it can also create files for PSP and the "Playan" video attachment for Gameboy Advance SP and Nintendo DS.

Three recording modes are available: Super Fine (320 x 240 dot, 30fps), Fine (320 x 240 dot, 15 fps), and Normal (176 x 144 dot, 15 fps). The external dimensions are 210 x 145 x 35mm (W x D x H).
