Here's a new palm-sized transceiver from NEC with a throughput of about 1Gbps. This allows for uncompressed HDTV signals.

Nippon Electric Corporation (NEC) has announced they have developed a small transmitter capable of using a new video transmission technology using the 60GHz band.

Both video and stereo audio signal are digitized into a 1Gbps signal, which are then transmitted using the 60GHz band through "ASK Modulation System," also used on optical fiber.

When compared to the existing wireless transmission technologies of LAN and UWB using the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, by being able to use a wide band, this new system is strong against interference. Also, HDTV video can be transmitted wirelessly without compression, so this would also be good for wall-hanging televisions.

The transceiver is a ceramic module measuring 70 x 50 x 15mm. By using a diversity system that requires two transceivers for one television, this also allows for multiple signals to be spread throughout the home as there is no interception.
