The GMA-4080N is a product of Hitachi-LG Data Storage. There are many DVD burners that support DVD+R DL, this one also supports DVD-RAM.
From Hitachi-LG Data Storage comes the slim DVD drive, the GMA-4080N, the slim DVR+R DL drive for DVD recorders. While there are many other drives that support DVD+R DL, the GMA-4080N also supports DVD-RAM.
The specs are as follows: (The speeds indicated are maximums. Actual results may vary.) Writing to DVD-RAM discs is 3x. DVD ±R discs are written at o 8x, DVD ±RW discs are rewritten at 4x. DVD+R DL discs are written at 2.4x. CD-R discs are written at 24x. CD-RW discs are rewritten at 16x. DVD-ROM discs are written at 8x. CD-ROM discs are written at 24x.
Naturally, when using DVD-RAM media, it’s necessary to take it out of the cartridge. The drive doesn’t come with any included software. The price at Tsukumo was 16,800 yen. A similar DVD-RAM and DVD+R DL Writeable drive from Matsushita Electric, the UJ-831B goes for around 20,000. At that price, the GMA-4080N is a good deal.
