I-O Data has just released two new drives; an internal DVD±RW drive, which connects via ATAPI and an external DVD±RW drive, which connects via USB.
On March 9th, I-O Data announced two new drives that support DVD±R burn speeds up to 6x. The internal drive, the DVR-ABN16S, connects via ATAPI and the DVR-UN16S, which connects via USB. They will be sold towards the end of March. The DVR-ABN16S will retail for 12,500 yen and the DVR-UN16S will retail for 15,700 yen.

The DVR-ABN16S uses Nippon Electric’s ND-3530A drive. It writes data at 6x on a double-layer DVD+R, 4x on a double-layer DVD-R, and at 16x to a single-layer DVD±R. Rewrite speeds are 8x for a DVD+RW and 6x for a DVD-RW. It measures 146 x 185 x 41.3mm (w x d x h) and weighs 900g.

The DVR-UN16S uses the same drive as the DVR-ABN16S mentioned above. The major differences are that it is an external model and connects via USB 2.0. It measures 162 x 268 x 50mm (w x d x h) and weighs 1.6kg.
Both the drives come bundled with DVD editing software, Ulead DVD MovieWriter 3.5 SE for I-O Data. Also included are B’s Recorder Gold8 Basic and Photoshop Album 2.0 Mini. The supported OS's are Windows Me/2000 Professional/XP.
